HEIKKI SALO INVITES YOUNG PEOPLE TO A SONGMAKING CAMP
Music-loving 4th–6th graders now have a rewarding winter holiday activity on offer when the Music School Musiikkitoteemi organizes a songwriting camp conceived by Heikki Salo. The camp is called Piisejä ja pizzaa.
– My motto is that every person can write a song. It's just a question of how to support them so that they can get started with songwriting, Salo says.
Heikki Salo is a well-known master of song lyrics. He has written the popular (Kahle)kuningaslaji song lyrics guide, and the songs of Miljoonasate are familiar to everyone. Salo also has decades of experience teaching songwriting, and song camps have taken him to Crete, Estonia, and various parts of Finland.
Recently, Salo led a songwriting course for middle and high school students. At that time, he realized that the concept could also be tried with elementary school students. And when a young person in his circle who was into music still needed something to do on a skiing holiday, the idea for this camp was born.
In addition to Heikki Salo, the campers are guided by pianist Tero Kaario and guitarist Juuso Peippo, who have extensive experience in songwriting, teaching instruments and playing in bands. The three-day camp consists of making songs and playing together, and of course, pizza is eaten every day. At the end of the camp, the young people perform the songs they have composed. Anyone interested in songwriting and playing in bands is welcome to participate, regardless of their instrument. The first 15 people to register can take part.
Music school Musiikkitoteemi is the largest private music school in Pirkanmaa, founded in 2004. The camp will be held at Musiikkitoteemi's Sointula location in Epilä on February 23–25.
