TWO MUSIC SCHOOLS MERGE IN TAMPERE

Pirkanmaa will have the largest private music school in the province when the operations of Musiikkikoulu Sointula are transferred to Musiikkikoulu Musiikkitoteemi from the beginning of August. The arrangement will further improve the service package and learning paths. The responsible organizer in this entity, which provides the general curriculum of basic arts education, is Musiikkitoteemi Oy.

The over 100-year-old office building of the Winterin paint factory in Winterinmutka, Epilä, contains many stories. Founded in 1986, Maija Salo Music School began operating there in 1988. The teachers of Salo Music School renovated the house for educational use together with the students' parents and the people of YLE's Pikku Kakkonen. The founder of the school, Maija Salo, is a pioneer in early music education, and her tradition of music has continued for almost 40 years. Hundreds of students who are now adults participated in the activities organized by Salo. Many were also involved in performing in YLE TV2's children's programs, such as Tenavatähti, Impromptu, Rytmireppu, Rytmiretki, Kukkuluuruu and Pikku Kakkonen. Now, Maija Salo's old students bring their children and grandchildren to the groups.

After Maija Salo retired in 2007, the music school teachers continued their activities through the cooperative, and in 2017 the school was renamed Musiikkikoulu Sointula. From August 2024, the education will be organized by Musiikkitoteemi, whose founder and principal is Tomi Tolvanen. With the merger, the music school will have almost 20 teachers and 200-300 students. The quality and spirit of the Muskaredi will be maintained in the future, as well as high-quality and individual music and singing instruction. In addition, in the autumn of 2024, Musiikkitoteemi will celebrate its 20th anniversary with various celebratory events.
